Jah Prayzah Pays Tribute To Fans Who Died En Route To His Canada Show

Contemporary musician Jah Prayzah has paid his ultimate respects to two fans who sadly died in a vehicle accident last month while travelling to see him perform in Canada.

Edmore Mafuwe and Anotida Kimberly Maziriri, who passed away, were well-known members of Edmonton’s Zimbabwean diaspora. Their passing created a profound hole among their contemporaries and admirers, bringing a sombre tone to what should have been a joyful musical performance.

Hours before Jah Prayzah’s eagerly awaited Ndini Mukudzeyi Show in Canada, the accident happened. According to reports, the deadly collision occurred because the automobile carrying the two Zimbabweans was unable to negotiate a steep bend on their route. Both in Canada and back home, the news shocked the Zimbabwean community, particularly among the award-winning artist’s loyal fans.

Following weeks of planning, the two victims’ bodies were eventually returned to Zimbabwe, where their lives were honoured with separate burial rites. In a unique and heartwarming act, Jah Prayzah performed musically and gave incredibly moving tributes at both funerals.

The artist, who spoke during the festivities, conveyed his deep sadness at the untimely death.

“We always want to make our fellow Zimbabweans who live far away from home feel happy and nostalgic when we play overseas. They are reminded of their origins, their families, and the love they left behind by the music we play. “That what should have been a celebration turned into such a tragedy is painful—truly heartbreaking,” he remarked.

Jah Prayzah disclosed that he had been emotionally upset ever since the accident, which he just found out about the next morning. Speaking to the mourning, he urged God to console the bereaved families, emphasising that words could not adequately convey his sorrow.

Jah Pryzah’s heartfelt message

“I’ve been really disturbed ever since I learnt the news. I still find it hard to believe. He remarked, “I pray that God gives strength to the families and friends left behind, but I don’t have many words to say.”

Both families cordially welcomed Jah Prayzah to their separate funeral services, despite reports in several media outlets that implied possible animosity. The artist’s condolence message was well received, and his appearance was interpreted as a show of humility and unity.

Jah Prayzah was thanked by the families of Edmore and Kimberly for taking the time to remember their loved ones and support them during such a trying time. Family members said that during an unfathomable period of grief, the artist’s presence provided some solace and healing.

The incident has sparked a wider discussion about the risks associated with long-distance travel, especially among Zimbabwean populations living abroad who frequently travel hundreds of kilometres to see artists play. The diaspora’s deep attachment to indigenous music and culture is demonstrated by the large number of fans who travel great distances to see performances, sometimes at the risk of their personal safety.

Jah Prayzah, who is renowned for his emotional depth and humility, is accustomed to interacting directly with his followers. But this recent act of kindness has further won him over many Zimbabweans, reminding them that despite his popularity and songs, he is still a man of the people, sensitive to their happiness and suffering.

Even though the community is still grieving the death of Edmore Mafuwe and Anotida Kimberly Maziriri, their memory endures in the hearts of those who knew and loved them—as well as in the songs that used to make them happy.
