Love Scam at 30,000 Feet: Cameroonian Beauty Duped of US$3,000 by Smooth-Talking Zimbabwean Lover

What started as a harmless chat on a connecting flight to Dubai turned into a whirlwind romance — and a costly heartbreak — for 34-year-old Cameroonian businesswoman Sabine Makane. Now, she’s speaking out about how her charming Zimbabwean ex swept her off her feet, only to vanish with her hard-earned cash and leave her nursing both emotional and financial wounds.

Sabine, who describes herself as cautious in love, says she never imagined that one decision to “try something new” in her dating life would haunt her for years.

“I had always preferred dating men from my own country,” she admits, “but when I met my ex-boyfriend, I thought I’d give something different a chance. I will always regret that decision.”

Love at 30,000 Feet

Sabine’s story began midair. She was on her way to Dubai for a short vacation when fate — or perhaps misfortune — seated her next to the man who would change her life in the worst way.

It happened during a connecting flight in Ethiopia. At first, she wasn’t drawn to him.

“It was definitely not love at first sight,” she recalls. “But he was so persistent with his conversation that I eventually gave him my number.”

By the time they landed in Dubai, the two were in constant communication. He whisked her away to expensive restaurants, showered her with attention, and even bought her an expensive watch.

“I thought I had met someone serious,” Sabine says. “When he told me he wanted to marry me and take me to Zimbabwe to meet his family, I truly believed him.”

The Loan That Changed Everything

The lavish dinners and gifts lulled Sabine into trust. So when he claimed he had an emergency that required urgent financial help, she didn’t hesitate.

“I felt like his problems were my problems,” she explains. “I assumed that a man who could afford expensive things would easily pay me back.”

She lent him US$3,000 — and that was the beginning of the end.

Red Flags Ignored by Cameroonian Beauty

After the relationship soured, Sabine says she saw the signs she had missed. She regrets becoming intimate with him so soon, admitting they had only known each other briefly before sleeping together twice.

“I don’t easily let someone in,” she says. “I don’t even know why I was so quick to trust him. Looking back, I see all the red flags I ignored.”

Months have passed since their breakup, yet the money remains unpaid.

Sabine’s Plea for Justice

Sabine’s message now is simple — she doesn’t want revenge, she doesn’t want reconciliation, she just wants her money back.

“All I want is my US$3,000,” she says firmly. “That’s it. He lied to me, and I just want what’s mine.”

Her story has become a cautionary tale about the dangers of misplaced trust, the lure of charm, and the high emotional cost of financial betrayal in relationships.

And as Sabine reflects on the love she thought she’d found high above the clouds, she’s now firmly grounded in one painful truth — sometimes, the most expensive lessons come wrapped in romance.
