Former Zimbabwe and Orlando Pirates Striker Tendai Ndoro (40) Found Dead

The football fraternity has been plunged into mourning following the death of former Zimbabwe international and Orlando Pirates striker Tendai Ndoro. The 40-year-old was reportedly found lifeless in his flat in South Africa, where he had been living quietly in recent years.

Ndoro’s death comes as a shock to many who fondly remember his playing days, when he lit up stadiums with his sharp finishing, blistering pace, and ability to score spectacular goals. For Zimbabwe, he was a trusted striker for the national team, the Warriors, while in South Africa he established himself as a household name in the Premier Soccer League (PSL).

Ndoro’s Decorated Career

Nicknamed Fire, Ndoro rose to prominence with Chicken Inn in Zimbabwe before moving to Mpumalanga Black Aces in South Africa. His breakthrough came when he signed for Soweto giants Orlando Pirates, where he quickly became a fan ffavourite.During his stint with the Buccaneers, Ndoro scored memorable hat-tricks and was celebrated as one of the most lethal strikers in the league.

He later went on to play for Ajax Cape Town and Highlands Park in the PSL, before short spells abroad, including in Saudi Arabia. His career was marked by determination and flair, which earned him respect across the continent.

Despite his glittering career, Ndoro’s post-football life was marred by personal struggles. Reports over the years suggested he faced financial difficulties and health issues. In 2021, images of him looking frail and uunrecognisableshocked fans, sparking concerns over his well-being. Though he tried to recover and return to normalcy, he largely kept a low profile in recent years.

News of his passing has been met with an outpouring of grief from fellow footballers, clubs, and fans across Africa. Orlando Pirates released a short tribute acknowledging Ndoro’s contribution to the club, while Zimbabwean supporters remembered his crucial role in the Warriors’ campaigns.

Many fans took to social media to celebrate his life, sharing old videos of his goals and chanting his nickname, Fire, in remembrance. “He gave us joy whenever he played. A true striker, gone too soon,” one fan wrote.
