Bevern Capital Fraudster Nabbed In UAE, Extradited To Zimbabwe

A suspect in the infamous Bevern Capital Ponzi scam has been captured in the United Arab Emirates and transported back to Harare to face fraud charges in what may be Zimbabwe’s largest extradition effort to date. He is one of 22 people who were recently arrested abroad and brought back to Zimbabwe to face charges ranging from armed robbery to fraud.
22 suspects from a number of countries, including South Africa, Botswana, Portugal, and the United Arab Emirates, have been extradited as a result of this multi-country operation, which was made possible by Interpol working with the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP). This broad action represents a notable increase in local law enforcement activity.
The Bevern Capital Suspect: Who Is He?
Shepherd Chibaya, who was detained in Abu Dhabi and quickly extradited, is one of the well-known cases. Following the fall of the Bevern Capital Ponzi scheme, which enticed investors with promises of 50% returns in as little as six weeks, he is accused of defrauding numerous people.
Authorities claim that after the swindle, Chibaya took advantage of the victims’ desperation. He pretended to be another victim and even took charge of an organisation established to retrieve misplaced money. He reportedly misrepresented the procedure once he was in that position, and the people he was supposed to assist lost a total of about US$105,830.

He came before the Harare Magistrates’ Court after being legally charged, and then he defaulted. In March 2024, a warrant was issued for his arrest; in April 2025, Interpol issued a Red Notice, which paved the way for his identification, arrest, and extradition.
Other noteworthy extraditions are part of the operation, in addition to Chibaya’s case. The suspects in the US$4 million Ecobank armed robbery in Bulawayo, for example, were detained overseas in South Africa and Botswana and are expected to be extradited. Similarly, Tawanda Hairwadzi was arrested in Portugal and is presently going through the extradition process after being implicated in a significant fuel-theft incident involving more than a million litres of fuel valued at US$743,600.

Detective Inspector Rachel Muteweri verified that the extradition of these persons is moving forward under proper legal procedures. With the support of Interpol’s network, Zimbabwe’s law enforcement agencies are regaining justice with renewed vigour, particularly in cases involving cross-border fraud and financial crimes.
For the victims of Bevern Capital, Chibaya’s return is especially important since it provides some closure and the possibility of compensation. His detention and extradition serve as further evidence that dishonest people will be hunted down no matter where they go.
An important turning point in Zimbabwe’s accountability for cross-border crimes is this ongoing extradition effort. Authorities are acting bravely to protect the rule of law and give victims of fraud and Ponzi schemes justice by ensuring the return of suspects like Chibaya. The cooperation with foreign partners reflects a changing legal framework that forbids offenders from evading detection.
