7 Family Members Die in Road Accident En Route to Tombstone Unveiling

Tragedy struck on Sunday when seven members of the same family lost their lives in a horrific road accident along the Harare–Nyamapanda Road. The group had been travelling together in a commuter omnibus (kombi) to attend a tombstone unveiling ceremony, an occasion meant to honour a departed loved one.
According to the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), the accident occurred at the 49-kilometre peg on the busy highway. Police confirmed that the kombi, which was carrying 16 passengers, overturned after the driver attempted a risky overtaking manoeuvre.

Police Confirm the Incident Of Family Members
In a statement, national police spokespersons provided grim details of the crash:
“ZRP confirms the death of seven family members in a fatal road accident that occurred today at the 49 km peg on the Harare–Nyamapanda Road. The kombi was carrying 16 family members, a tombstone, and bricks when the driver attempted to overtake another motor vehicle and lost control. The kombi then overturned, killing five people on the spot, while two others died upon admission at a local hospital. Nine others were injured.”
The victims’ names have not yet been released, as authorities are still working with relatives to ensure that families are formally notified.
